Five people were killed after a head-on car crash on the Pacific Coast Highway in Ventura County on early Sunday morning.

The crash took place when a blue Subaru WRX driven by a man in his 30s and an SUV with four occupants crashed around 4:30 a.m. near Mugu Rock.

Both vehicles were engulfed after the crash.

One of the vehicles apparently veered into oncoming traffic, but it is yet to be known which one it was.

Both directions of the PCH were closed as of 8 a.m.
