VW Concept BlueSport: sporty and fuel-efficient roadster

Volkswagen introduced the Concept BlueSport at the Detroit Auto Show.

Even though no official details were given about production version, it is very likely that we will see the production version at local VW dealerships already in 2012.

This little mid-engined roadster is just 3.99 meters (13.1 feet) long and uses 4.3 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (54 mpg).

Under the hood is a new 2.0-liter turbo diesel that develops 180 horsepower. Power is sent to rear wheels via 6-speed dual clutch transmission.

0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) comes in 6.6 seconds and top speed is 226 km/h (140 mph). Surely it is not the fastest roadster, but considering its size, rear wheel drive and fuel consumption it could be a fun car on any race track.

When BlueSport enters production it will have more engines to choose from. Top of the line model could use the 2.0 TSI with 265 horsepower from Scirocco R.

Rumor is that it will be priced around $30,000 (21,600 euros) when it enters production. Until we bring you more details take a look at new official images below.
