Lotus sent the automotive industry into a tizzy when the British sports car maker sent a picture of Stonehenge with an announcement that followed stating that this was a new era. The conclusion that was drawn immediately was that this was an indication of the new Lotus Espirti to be. However there could be possibly more to just this new ear thought process.
Reports flowing out from Malaysia indicate that Proton who is the owner of Lotus has taken into his payroll a number of ex employees of Ferrari, Porsche and Aston Martin. The idea maybe to turn over the company from one that just produces one more Toyota based sports car to a different genre of cars like a luxury supercar brand. The light frame basic car would then be replaced with these new complex varieties but it would also signal the end of an era of simple models that was the hallmark of Lotus till now.
Engine for the Lotus Espirit would most probably be a 5.0 liter V8 of 416 hp rating. This is the same engine that is installed on Toyota’s IS-F model. This would also enable the Lotus to compete with the other sports cars in this segment. However in order to rival the Ferrari if it be the intention of Lotus then the engine would need to be tuned to produce more power.
In this case they might opt for the Lexus V10, 4.8 liter engine which is fitted on the LFA model. This engine has a power rating of 552 hp. This also makes better sense as Lexus would be able to get back a few dollars they have spent on this engine by installing them on the 500 Lotus cars.
People have gone for the Lotus mainly for its low price tag and driving ability. If the price difference is too much due installing an engine of higher power then maybe the demand would not be so high for the Lotus.
