Wrong-way car crash cause 3 deaths on I-80, Illinois

Three people died after a wrong-way crash on Monday morning on Interstate 80 in Will County, Illinois.

Officials responded to the crash about 12:15 a.m.

The crash involved two cars, according to Illinois State Police.

A 2011 Kia Optima was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-80 just past Wolf Road when it hit a 2019 Nissan Versa head-on.

The driver of the Kia and the driver and passenger in the Nissan were pronounced dead at the scene.

The westbound lanes were shut around 1 a.m., and traffic was diverted off to La Grange Road.

The concerning lanes were reopened by 5:25 a.m.
