After the C-X16 Concept was unveiled in Frankfurt and the first live pictures were published, Jaguar has decided to raise the stakes by releasing a new promo with the concept, in addition to the first video.
The new promo video features the first driving shots of the car as well as the sound of its new supercharged V-6 engine.
The two-seater is powered by a next-generation supercharged V6 petrol engine producing 380 PS (280kW) and 332 lb ft (450 Nm) of torque. Already boasting a high specific power output of 126 PS-per-litre, the performance of the C-X16 is further supplemented by a Formula 1-inspired hybrid boost system with a steering-wheel mounted button for on-demand acceleration.
In order to keep the ideal 50:50 weight distribution, a motor generator which draws power from a 1.6kWh battery pack mounted behind the seats is integrated into the eight-speed gearbox. The batteries, which allow the motor to provide an additional 95 PS (70 kW) and173 lb ft (235 Nm) are charged through a brake energy regeneration system.
The production version, (the long-rumored Jaguar ‘XE’ sports car due late next year or in early 2013) will most likely keep the same drivetrain, minus the innovative hybrid booster. Very early production test-mules of the car have been spotted, hidden under the guise of a modified XK shell. You can check the spy shots, by clicking here.
