The four door coupe model to have hooked the market can be attributed to the Mercedes-Benz CLS which was released in 2004. Thereafter there have been many different car makers that have come out with luxury models to emulate the design such as the 2010 Porsche Panamera and then the 2010 Aston Martin Rapide and more recently the Audi A7.
There are now hints about the next generation Mercedes Benz CLS with some of its features being revealed. The launch date of the car is scheduled for sometime later in this year. The model would be launched as a 2011 model and the styling would be such that it can compete with its other premium class rivals. This would in addition give Mercedes a chance to introduce another four door coupe based on its next generation small car platform.
The extended wheel and the arches that can be seen on the new car indicate this is going to be one of a wider track. The platform has been borrowed from the current S-Class Sedan as per information got form insiders at Mercedes-Benz, instead of using the E-Class car platform as the current model is based on.
A new feature is the hybrid option that would be available on the CLS. The powertrain drawn from the one used on the S400 BlueHybrid. It would include both the V-6 and V-8 powerplants and have naturally aspirated as well as a twin turbo-charged version. There would also be an AMG model which will be a high performance car and will have a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 under the hood.
There is also rumor of the brake system to be of the “shooting brake” variant. The car will be there to be seen at the September 2010 Paris Auto Show which is when the car will be officially unveiled.
