In Europe, the Honda Civic is available in three- and five-door bodystyles. Beside this is also avilable as a high-performance Type R variant with more than 180 horsepower on tap.
The latest spy photos shows this Civic in five-door form. Some previous spy pics showed what appeared to be a test-mule for the next-generation model due late this year as a 2012 model.
Now, from the latest pictures we can clearly see a vehicle much closer to the final stages of design, without cabling and wires sticking out at odd places. Also, now the heavy camouflage covering of previous prototypes isn’t anymore. It was replaced with the classic black-and-white covering that has become popular with carmakers in recent years.
Still, despite the absence of covering, the camouflage manages to hide much of the flares and character lines that no doubt run the length of the car. Analysing the overall size, it appears to be slightly wider and longer than the current Civic, meaning interior space should also be more generous.
The previous test-mules were seen wearing the new model’s bumpers and features an elevated hood, either to fit a new engine or test equipment.
So far no official details were revealed, but there are some unofficial rumors that a new three-cylinder engine option will join the four-cylinder range. Beside this there’s also rumor that the hybrid system from the CR-Z Hybrid will make it into the new Honda Civic.
Below, in the photo gallery you can see the latest spy shots with the 2012 Civic and also some previous pictures, so you can clearly see the evolution.
