It seems that even if Porsche’s engineers have been hard at work lately, rolling out the new 2012 911 and sketching out their future Ferrari beater, they come with something new for us. Being one of their most important products, the 911 GT3 R just got a bit of a facelift for the 2012 model year. In addition aesthetics, the new car grew a little more powerful and with better handling on the table.
The 2012 911 GT3 R comes with an engine output which has been increased by 20hp to now deliver 500hp. In order to ensure gear changes even quicker and simpler, Porsche’s engineers fitted this car with paddle-shifts on the steering wheel, making it easier for pilots to concentrate on braking.
Moreover, the transmission electronics, featuring an automatic throttle blip control, make it almost impossible to miss a gear and over-rev the engine. A softer anti-roll bar on the front axle reduces understeer. Beside this, the vehicle’s six-speed sequential gearbox, has been upgraded an is now able to change faster.
Deliveries to teams around the world will start from November 2011. The 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 R costs € 304,500 plus the value added tax of respective countries. Also, the Porsche 911 GT3 R from the 2010 and 2011 model years can be upgraded to the 2012-spec. An upgrade kit is available from Porsche Motorsport for € 43,100.
