2013 BMW FAST (Family Activity Sports Tourer): Latest Spy Shots

by Ionut Dragomir

It’s time to meet the BMW FAST. It joins the CAT (Compact Activity Tourer) and the JOY (Compact Sports Commuter Concept) as part of BMW’s new FWD strategy. By the end of the decade, BMW could have up to 1 million FWD vehicles and Minis produced annually. Now you are lucky because here you can preview this car in the gallery below, where you’ll see the latest spy shots with this car.

2013 BMW FAST (Family Activity Sports Tourer), is the first BMW with front wheel drive and starts a new era for BMW vehicles. Available in both front wheel drive as well as all wheel drive, the BMW FAST is based on the new UKL1 platform that will be shared with all future mini BMWs and Minis. Apparently the BMW AFAST goes to the design table as demanded by customers who want a more premium offering which still fulfills their requirements around a van, but maintains the BMW values.

Beside this, the new layout has also allowed BMW to rethink the car’s proportions, with the front bulkhead and A-pillars being brought further forward. This way increasing the volume of the cabin and becoming an opponent for the Volkswagen Golf, and the Audi A3.

From this latest pictures we can clearly see that the front of the car gets a smaller twin kidney grille, again more three-dimensional as the front of the car allows the grille to be pushed further back. Beside this, a glass area wraps around and the shape of this glasshouse is dictated by the shape of the roof allowing a slope line. Also, at the rear of the car, the light units faired inwards with the body covering over the top parts of the units.

This brand new model will hide under its hood, the N38 gas engine or the N37 diesel engine will both be available. With a 1.5-liter capacity, outputs of 75hp to 155hp are expected.

The new BMW FAST hits the showroom in late 2013.
