About a month ago, Mark Reuss, North American President of General Motors, made the official announcement that Cadillac’s lineup is growing by two new vehicles. These growing will start with the XTS full-size sedan, which will come in the spring of 2012 and the ATS compact sedan in the summer. At that time, along with this announcement, GM also released a teaser image previewing the new ATS. Well, today now we can present you the latest and most revealing spy photos of Cadillacs new 3-series competitor.
The ATS is likely to come onto the market as a 2013 model and it will be produced at GM’s Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant in Michigan, creating some 600 jobs in the process. This model will go up against Germany’s finest including the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class as well as the Lexus IS range.
In terms of styling, the latest spy shots reveals the strong influences from the CTS. Upright head and tail lights appear at their respective ends and dual exhaust tips can be seen in the rear bumper.
As for the technical part, no official details were published, but expect the new model to come fitted with GM’s brand new ‘Alpha’ platform, a compact rear-wheel drive design that’s expected to be used for the next-generation CTS and even the Chevrolet Camaro.
Rumor say that the regular ATS line will feature two engine options: a 3.6-liter V-6 with 330 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque on tap, as well as a 2.0-liter turbocharged mill with 270 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque on tap. The same rumor say that these engines will transfer the power to the wheels through a six-speed manual and six-speed automatic.
