As some of you might know, Jaguar is working at a new model, the XE, which is the production version of the Jaguar Concept C-X16. Well, while the concept is displayed on the IAA in Frankfurt, the test crew is driving the mule for the upcoming production version in the European Alps to test both braks and cooling system.
As these photos reveals, this mule is based on a cut up Jaguar XK body but we really hope that the XE, that we suspect will be the name of the production version, will look alot like the Concept in Frankfurt.
Refresher: The Jaguar Concept C-X16 is powered by a next-generation supercharged V6 petrol engine producing 380 PS (280kW) and 332 lb ft (450 Nm) of torque. Already boasting a high specific power output of 126 PS-per-litre, the performance of the C-X16 is further supplemented by a Formula 1-inspired hybrid boost system with a steering-wheel mounted button for on-demand acceleration.
The production version will first come as a Roadster and the Coupe will follow one year after. The rumors say that there will also be a GT3 version of the Coupe. It will most likely keep the same drivetrain, minus the innovative hybrid booster. The XE will be a true two-seater sportscar and is planned to go on the hunt for Porsche buyers. The XE will have a price between the Boxster/Cayman and the 911. Power is expected from a 3.0 liter V6 totally made from aluminium and delivering some 380 horsepower.
