The two vehicles in Lexus’ RX series are the RX 350 and the RX 450h. The first one gets a 3.5-liter V6 engine coupled to a six-speed Electronically Controlled Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i), and delivers 270 horsepower. The Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) is used to control intake and exhaust independently.
The automatic transmission in the RX 350 has quick responses, and it also allows the driver to shift manually. The Intelligent Shift Control analyses the road conditions and automatically controls the shift pattern accordingly. Lexus RX 350 AWD also comes with Active Torque Control that can distribute up to 100 percent of torque to the front wheels, and up to 50 percent to the rear wheels, depending on road conditions.
The Lexus RX450h is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 Atkinson-cycle engine, four electric motors and a battery. Power stands at 295 horsepower. There is an electric motor for each wheel, which greatly improves fuel consumption. The EPA-estimated figures are 32 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, for a total of 30 mpg combined. The all-wheel drive model gets 30mpg city, 28 mpg highway and 29 mpg combined. The RX450h can operate in full electric mode on short distances. The power is then 123 kW, or about 165 horsepower.
This car and many others were released at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, so check out speedlux.com for a full coverage of the event in Switzerland.
