2013 Mercedes-Benz A Class AMG Shows Its Face [Spy Shots]

After revealed its new SLK 250 CDI (Diesel) and the 2012 Mercedes SLK 55 AMG, Mercedes keep working. While we’re waiting for the standard A-Class to be officially revealed, spy photographers moved on to the next big thing from Mercedes as they managed to capture the flagship AMG model testing in Germany.

As you can see, these first photos show that the AMG version will get most of those typical AMG changes compared to the normal cars, like upgraded brakes and wheels, bigger air intakes in the front bumper and bigger exhaust pipes. If there will be just 2 fat pipes, or if there will be the more typical quad layout is still not clear at this point. But it definitely sounds much better than the normal A-Class prototypes we have seen.

The new A-Class, in standard trim, will sport a turbocharged and direct injected 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with about 210 horsepower on tap. However, the AMG variant is expected to feature a similar sized engine with a total output around 320 up to 350 sent via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to all four wheels.

The same powertrain will also find its way in the still under development baby CLS sports sedan, which is based on a modified version of the new A-Class’ platform architecture.

Finally, this will be enough to give the Audi RS3 and the BMW 1-series M Coupe a hard life. This time we noticed that the testers have a VW Golf R to benchmark against the A-Class AMG prototype.
