The first spy images of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider have surfaced on the web which is scheduled to be unveiled sometime next year.

In the image we can see a black prototype wearing camouflage on what appears to be a Targa-like roof which can be stored in a special compartment in the boot. The website reporting the picture, Autoblog.it, states that some of the body panels will go through surgery on the Spider version, although these are not noticeable on the spotted prototype as of now.

There are chances that Alfa Romeo 4C Spider will get a completely redesigned engine cowl while underneath will be the coupe’s 1.75-liter, 4-cylinder turbo engine generating an output of 240 HP (177 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. The power will be further transferred to the rear axle via a dual-clutch gearbox and we can also expect the curb weight to be slightly higher than the coupe’s 895 kg (1,973 lbs).

The 4C is able to accelerate to 0-62 mph (0-100 kmph) in 4.5 seconds, and so we can expect the Spider will be able to do it in may be 4.6 or 4.7 seconds, before hitting a top speed of about 160 mph (258 kmph).
