Ford has for the first time introduced Transit series in Detroit.

With the coming of the new Transit, the outdated E-series commercial van is being phased out for good.
The replacement will be available in three body lengths, three roof heights and two wheelbases, along with three engines.

The low-roof model offers 56 inches of cargo height, followed by the medium-roof with 72 inches and the high-roof with 81.5 inches. Cargo capacity starts from 250 cubic feet and goes all the way up to 500 cubic feet. The normal wheelbase measures 129.9 inches. The longer one stretches to 147.6 inches. Body versions are standard and expanded.

As far as engines are concerned, the new Transit gets as standard a V6 3.7-liter gasoline engine, along with an optional V6 3.5-liter EcoBoost and a 5-cylinder 3.2-liter Power Stroke diesel. All engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Apart from the regular Transit, Ford is also displaying the Transit Connect Van and the Transit Connect Wagon for the first time.

More will be revealed at the auto show so keep a watch on what happens when the actual show begins.

In the meantime enjoy the picture gallery.
