Kia has recently released some preliminary details of the forthcoming Soul EV before the 2014 market release.
Detailing their first ever EV to be sold outside South Korea, the model will come equipped with a 27 kWh lithium-ion battery which should provide enough juice to cover the range of more than 120 miles (193 km). When using a standard 240v outlet, charging the battery to its full capacity will take five hours, while with a 100 kW fast charger the charge would be completed in time of just 25 minutes.
The company says that the current prototype cars are being developed on modified 2014MY Soul units and have a electric motor rated at 109 hp (81 kW) and providing an instant 210 lb-ft (284 Nm) of torque. The power is transferred to the front axle via a single-speed constant ratio gear reduction unit and this enables the Soul EV to achieve the 0-62 mph (0-100 kmph) sprint in just under 12 seconds and can hit a top speed of 90 mph (145 kmph).
Other highlights of the 2014MY include aerodynamically-shaped 16-inch alloy wheels, projector-style headlamps, LED rear combination lamps and LED positioning lamps.
