Mazda is in the midst of a major product revamp and new details have begun to emerge about the next-generation Mazda3. Mazda Motor Corporation is a Japanese automotive manufacturer based in Fuchu, Aki District, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan.
If the sources are to be believed then the new Mazda3 model will be introduced in late 2013 or early 2014. It will feature restrained styling, but we can expect it to have a family resemblance to the new Mazda6 and facelifted CX-9.
Engine options remain unconfirmed, but U.S. models will be likely be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that gives out 155 bhp (116 kW). Hardly any information is available on the new Mazda3, but it is reported that it will have the same ride platform as on which the Mazda CX-5 drives, which eventually would lead the car to shave off hundreds of pounds less than the current model.
Now according to the rumors, Mazda is believed to have reduced the weight of each of its new models by as much as 220 lbs, which means that the base curb weight for the 2014 model should sit around just 2,650 lbs. This will help make the most of the SkyActiv 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine currently in use give out a 155-hp and 148 lb-ft of torque, the new model is expected to make use of a new exhaust head design so as to increase the torque slightly to 150 lb-ft, whilst the torque improves significantly for better responsiveness.
Out their all Mazda fanatics will be able to opt for a new 2.5-liter SkyActiv engine on the Mazda6, A sportier version after Mazda3, which as per the sources will roughly produce as much as 189-hp in the upcoming 2014 Mazda6. Now as per the reports Mazda is considering a new 2.2-liter diesel engine option for the US Customers, which roughly churns out 170-hp and over 300 lb-ft of torque, this engine is confirmed for North America and will arrive in the new mid-size 6 sedan late in 2013.
