The 2014 Mazda6 fitted with the i-ELOOP system has been now officially rated to return 40 mpg on the highway.
The i-ELOOP package is available exclusively on the Grand Touring models (pricing starts from 29,695 USD) and is part of the Technology Package which further costs 2,080 USD to the final price tag. In totality, an i-ELOOP-fitted Mazda6 starts from 31,775 USD (excluding the destination charges). The optional package also includes other goodies such as active grille shutters, Sport mode button, high beam control, lane departure warning system, Mazda Radar Cruise Control and forward obstruction warning system.
The Japanese marque said that a 2014 Mazda6 fitted with an i-ELOOP system will do an EPA-rated 28 mpg city / 40 mpg highway and 32 mpg combined, while the version without the system would return 38 mpg on the highway which is lesser than the i-ELOOP version.
Just to recap about the i-ELOOP package, it is a capacitor-based regenerative engine braking system which is capable of converting the car’s kinetic energy into electricity during deceleration. The captured electricity is stored for powering the model’s various electrical components like headlights, audio and climate control systems.
Certainly a good news for the Mazda car lovers but we will have to see now many customers take this optional system for their cars.
