Nissan had recently introduced the redesigned Rogue at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September but that hasn’t spelt the end for its predecessor.
Nissan has now announced that the previous generation Rogue will continue to be sold as the Rogue Select and they have cited strong demand for this model as the reason. The model will go on sale in the US markets in January next year and will have a base price of less than $20,000. The company did not reveal about the specifications but the model will likely come fitted with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 170 hp (126 kW) and 175 lb-ft (237 Nm) of torque.
Nissan North Americas divisional vice president of Sales and Marketing, Fred Diaz, was quoted saying that since the compact SUV segment was becoming very specialized, there was an some space opening up for a low-cost, high-content offering model and that gap would be filled by Rogue Select. He further added that Rogue Select will allow the company to continue its strong performance in the segment, and it will only get stronger once the all-new, U.S.-built 2014 Rogue goes on sale next year.
