News has emerged from Germany that a production version of Audi’s jaw-dropping Quattro concept will be ready by early 2015.
The Quattro has been given the green light for limited production which should be ready for the year 2015.
A report filed by German motoring publication Autobild suggests that the production Audi Quattro, codenamed Q35 (hinting at celebrating the 35th anniversary of the original 1980 Quattro and thereby hinting at a 2015 launch date), will go on sale in Europe from March 2015.
The production Quattro will be based on Audi’s latest aluminum spaceframe chassis with a body built in carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. It will weigh in at about 660 lbs less than the RS5 as seen on the prototypes. It will also feature a wheelbase that has been reduced by 150 mm and an interior featuring seats made from forged composites.
We don’t know exactly, but if the sources are to be believed, the concept version is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter 5-cylinder is attached to a classic six-speed gearbox. The engine delivers a total of 402 HP and 354 pound-feet of torque. The sprint vrooms from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.9 seconds, while top speed is of course limited to 155 mph.
It also to make a note of that Quattro will not adopt the concept’s coupe-like shape, instead becoming more of a coupe/compact SUV that the Germans are classifying as a sort of hybridization between Audi’s Q5 and A5 models.
The design will reportedly incorporate such features as LED-adorned head- and taillamps, 20-inch alloys, a lantern-jawed fender studded with air inlets a-la concept and a flat roof.
If sources at Autobild are to be believed then they also hinted at a hybrid powertrain providing the all-wheel drive newcomer with 263 kW could also be introduced at a later date.
Anyway till now pricing hasn’t been declared yet, so for the time being lets be patient enough to check out that when are the details about the 2015 Audi Quattro Coupe going to be announced officially!
