BMW started the whole coupe-crossover design trend back in 2008 with the X6. Basically X5 with less room, but with over 250,000 units sold it has proven to be quite popular and Mercedes is already working by now on their version of the coupe-crossover, as well as Porsche.
This here is the second-generation X6 and it is quite similar to the already revealed third-generation X5, adopting a the latest BMW design elements in a sporty package.
The new X6 boasts improved aerodynamics and additional standard equipment like bi-xenon headlights, an automatic tailgate and 19-inch alloy wheels.
From launch there is also an M Sport variant with an aerodynamic body kit, a matte aluminum grille and unique 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels. The M Sport model also has also unique interior touches, an Adaptive M suspension and a self-leveling rear air suspension.
Interior in general has no big surprises as it carries over from the X5 with a sport steering wheel, Dakota leather seats and an iDrive infotainment system with a huge display.
Despite a dropping roofline the luggage area with the rear seats down is up to 1,525 liters (53.8 cubic feet), which is not too bad.
From launch three engine choices are offered:
The xDrive 50i with a 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8 engine producing 450 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. Good for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 4.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
The xDrive30d uses a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder diesel engine with 258 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque, taking it from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 230 km/h (142.9 mph).
The M50d uses a tri-turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine with 381 hp and 545 lb-ft of torque. 0-100 km/h comes in 5.2 seconds and the top speed is 250 km/h (155 mph).
