The American automaker, Chevrolet, has eventually come to the point where it officially unveils its next generation Malibu vehicle model. The unveiling of the vehicle happens at this year’s New York Auto Show event.
Judging by the look of this completely new Malibu variant, the car looks sleeker than its outgoing model. It also sports a more curvaceous design for its body and a sloping roofline, which result in a more refined visual look of the car. However, of course, the car is not only refined and comforting on the outside but also on the inside. Getting into the cabin of the car, customers will be greeted with a color capacitive touchscreen display measuring 7 inches (or 8 inches for higher trim models), wireless phone charging (also on higher trim models), a 110V power outlet (on select models) and also dual USB ports on the rear seats. Speaking of the rear seats, passengers sitting in the rear compartment are now provided with a more spacious legroom than that of the model’s predecessor.
In terms of performance, the car comes standard with a new turbocharged 1.5L Ecotec engine. This engine provides 160 bhp and 250 Nm of power output and torque, respectively. For an alternative to the engine, customers can also get a more powerful version, a 2.0L turbo engine that delivers 250 bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque. The 1.5L variant of the model comes standard with a 6-speed automatic transmission whereas the 2.0L variant is gifted with the company’s newly developed 8-speed automatic transmission.
Besides the two engine options mentioned above, a hybrid plug-in engine will be available as well. This one will consist of a conventional 1.8L 4-cylinder direct injection engine with two electric motors and a 1.5kWh lithium-ion battery.
Last but not least, what makes the car interesting is the Teen Driver System that helps parents monitor how their children are driving the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu.
