The American automaker, Chevrolet, has now officially shown off its Volt vehicle model for the year 2016. The car has shown up a few days prior to the opening of the upcoming North American International Auto Show, also known as the Detroit Auto Show.
Compared to its predecessor, the current generation Chevy Volt features a more stylish visual design. It now sports an angular design for the front fascia. In addition to that, the front fascia of the vehicle is also decorated with highly distinctive grille pads and headlamps with a sweptback design. The roofline is now more aerodynamic and there are also black window trims and a shoulderline that sweeps upwards. The rear fascia of the car also looks quite unique now and the vehicle will be sitting firmly on 17-inch bespoke alloy wheels wrapped in all-season tires from Michelin, the Michelin Energy Saver.
On the interior, the car attempts to seat five passengers altogether. In addition to five seats, the interior also packs a curvy design for its metallic dashboard, blue ambient lighting, simply looking controls, a floating center console and also the company’s MyLink infotainment system.
The car packs a Voltec powertrain under the hood. This powertrain comprises a 1.5L 4-cylinder range extender combustion engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery with a total capacity of 18.4 kWh. According to Chevy, the new powertrain is more efficient than the old engine by a margin of 12% and also weighs 45 kg less than the old engine. When the battery runs out of juice, it takes 13 hours to recharge it using a 120V outlet and only 4.5 hours with a 240V outlet.
The order book for the 2016 Chevrolet Volt will eventually be opened at the second half of 2015 and the American automaker will wait until launch date is closer before it announces official asking price for its upcoming green vehicle.
