Opel has been diligently working on its next generation Astra vehicle model. The company does not have anything official to unveil yet. However, as its 2016 model year Astra was undergoing some factory tests, the cars happened to be caught on camera. There was not just one example of the vehicle that got spotted but a convoy of it. The prototypes caught on camera show that they are coming with newly designed headlights and taillights.
Judging by the spy photo shoots of the prototypes, it seems that the new Opel Astra will sport a bigger body dimension than its predecessor does. In addition to that, it seems that the upcoming vehicle model from Opel will also have an evolutionary design. To keep the public from seeing for real what its new Astra models may have in store, Opel has made sure that all the prototypes of the vehicle model in question are covered in heavy camouflage.
Nevertheless, it is really not hard to see that the car will be featuring exterior side mirrors mounted on its doors, but that is just the beginning. A newly designed tailgate is quite easily visible as well as a large spoiler on the rear end of the vehicle. Its headlamps now come with a new design and its taillights seem to now feature a boomerang style design. LEDs are to be expected on both the headlamps and taillights.
Although the automaker is not revealing too much about the technical specifications of the vehicle, it is reported that the 2016 Opel Astra will use the platform used by the 2016 Chevrolet Volt. It is the D2XX platform we are talking about here. In addition to that, the vehicle will also boast 115 PS and 166 Nm of power and torque, thanks to its 1.0L 3-cylinder engine with turbocharger.
