2016 Peugeot 2008 to use a Hybrid Air powertrain

by SpeedLux

Peugeot has recently announced the second generation of the 2008 which is scheduled to be out in 2016 will be offered with a Hybrid Air powertrain.

PSA introduced the interesting Hybrid Air powertrain at the beginning of last year and towards the end of 2013 a rumor emerged about the firm’s plans to implement the development in future B- and C-segment models. Now, the company has made an announcement that the system will be offered in the second-gen 2008 due to be launched in 2016.

This promising system makes use of a gasoline engine, compressed air, hydraulic motor pump and an automatic transmission with an epicyclic gear train. It allows a car to work only on gasoline, air or a combination of the two. Such a system would enable the car with the size of a Citroën C3 or Peugeot 208 to give a fuel economy of 81.1 mpg US (97.4 mpg UK or 2.9 liters / 100 km) with CO2 emissions at just 69 g/km.

Well sounds great and now we really wait for further details and final reveal date of the model to be announced by the company.
