While not too many details are being divulged about this beast of a machine that Mercedes are manufacturing, it is being reported that Mercedes are working on a new version of the AMG GT, which is not going to be called the GT3 as that name has reportedly been taken by another car maker, according to Mercedes AMG Boss Tobias Moers.
According to reports, the name that will replace the previously working name of 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT3 is now going to be 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT R. The Sports car is going to be a track-focused version this time. It has also been made clear by Mr. Tobias that this car is not the Black Series version and that version is going to be launched separately (in 2018 by all estimates).
The possibility of a tiff with Nissan (who currently manufacture sports cars under the “GT R” name) may be possible but is unlikely considering that the parent companies of Nissan and Mercedes-AMG (Daimler and Nissan) are currently allied as partners.
Specifications
The 2017 Mercedes AMG GT-R is definitely expected to be more powerful than the existing versions of the car. With the 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 engine coming into play (Presumably at 500 bhp of power and 650 nm Torque), it hasn’t yet been conclusively revealed how much the powertrain will produce, but a top speed of 320 KMPH is definitely expected.
A four-wheel steering system might just be in order considering the need for high-speed stability and for turning into corners. Besides this, the 2017 Mercedes AMG GT-R will boast improved aerodynamics. Better (bigger) brakes, adjustable spool valve shocks and an upgraded rolling stock are also said to be in order.
The car is also going to be quite a bit lighter than it’s predecessor and is expected to lose around 80-100 Kilos in the process.
Launch Date
The 2017 Mercedes AMG GT-R is expected to come out at the end of 2016.
Price
The 2017 Mercedes AMG GT-R has not been priced as of yet. But going by by it’s predecessor’s $129,900 price tag, it probably won’t be too far from that.
