Three students were killed and four others were injured after a four-vehicle crash involving a wrong-way driver on northbound Interstate 17 near Table Mesa Road in Arizona on early Monday.

The victims were identified as Abriauna Hoffman, Hunter Balberdi and Magdalyn “Maggie” Ogden.

All three were freshmen at GCU and suitemates in Diamondback Residence Hall.

It was just before 4 a.m., when a driver traveling southbound in the northbound I-17 lanes struck other vehicles traveling northbound.

The wrong-way driver, the only occupant of the car, was found unconscious and was hospitalized with serious injuries.

The three students were in one of the other vehicles.

Two of them were pronounced dead at the scene and one was taken to the hospital in critical condition before succumbing to injuries there.

The drivers of the other two vehicles didn’t have serious injuries.

Northbound I-17 was closed at milepost 236 and northbound traffic for some hours.

The highway was later reopened on AZ511.
