A Dallas lady is charged of attempting to smuggle over $1.6 million worth of methamphetamine hidden in the rear tires of an SUV around the Texas border crossing.
U.S. Customs and Border Security authorities on Tuesday revealed the bust at the Paso Del Norte border crossing in El Paso. Matilda Perez, 46, was apprehended on drug smuggling charges after officers discovered more than 50 pounds of meth in the automobile.
Investigators state the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer came to the border crossing Saturday morning. A drug-sniffing dog signaled officers to something uncommon in the rear of the automobile.
Officers removed the back tires and found custom-manufactured metal collars bolted to the rims. The metal collars were cut open and revealed about a lots methamphetamine-filled packs.
As a side note, we must say that we didn’t knew that SUV tires could be also used for smuggling.
