The A3 lineup from Audi has been very well complemented by the new A3 concept that the company has put up on show at the Geneva Motor Show. This concept is a four door AWD and places Audi into the small car makers group as well. The concept model is just 4.44 meter long, 1.84 meter wide and 1.39 meter high. The concept uses a lot of CFRP with the grille, front air intakes, 20-inch wheels, side mirrors, and rear diffuser made up of this material while the rest of the car can be found done up in aluminum material.
For engine the concept uses a 2.5 liter turbocharged 5 cylinder unit delivering 300 kW or 408 horsepower and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of max torque. For transmission the concept boasts a 7 speed S tronic system. Acceleration and top speeds characteristics of the car are 4.1 seconds to reach 100 kmph or 62 mph from standstill while top speed is 250 kmph or 155 mph. Fuel consumption rate of the car is 9.1 liters per 100 km or 25.85 US mpg, with 212 grams CO2 per km or 341.18 g per mile in emissions.
For improvement to the chassis McPherson struts and a lot of aluminum up front has been used along with a four link set up at the back with steel control arms. This has been derived from the Audi’s RS3 pocket rocket.
Four sport seats form the basis of the interior with a customizable information display between the speedo and tachometers fitted behind the steering wheel which also has a sporty look. There is plenty of space with 2.65 meter at the wheelbase. The trunk storage capacity is 410 liter or 14.48 cubic feet.
There is even an iPad holder at the back of the front seat as the car itself is a mobile wireless hot spot and therefore surfing on the go is very much possible using ones iPhone. An MMI multimedia system is also fitted in the car and there is a screen slotted into the dashboard which can be perked up for viewing by the button located between the bucket seats.
Official details of the car are expected later on this year.
