Audi, BMW suspend shipments by train to China due to Ukraine war

BMW and Audi have suspended shipments of cars by rail from Germany to China due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the automakers said on Tuesday.

While both automakers produce most of their vehicles in China, a certain share is imported from Europe through rail or ship.

Last year, BMW made deliveries of 846,237 BMW and MINI vehicles to China, while Audi did about 701,289 of them.

“We are currently examining whether transports by rail via the southern route will also be possible in the near future,” a BMW spokesperson added.

Audi suspended rail transports to and from China via Russia with the Trans-Siberian Railway immediately after the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine intensified.
