15 percent rise in sales for Audi in May

Audi AG reported a 15 percent rise in sales of its cars for the month of May which the German luxury carmaker attributed a rise in demands in China. It is also expected that the sales of its new A1 subcompact model would also rise in Europe as there is more customers demanding this car in Europe.

Audi, which is Volkswagen AG’s luxury brand, said 94,900 of its cars and SUVs were sold this year. This is a rise from the 82,803 units that the car maker sold last year. In China the number of cars sold was 17,396 which marked an increase by 40% from sales last year. There are a number of new models which are lined up for launch by Audi. They have the A1 hatchback, the A7 coupe and a newer version of the A8 sedan. All in all 12 models have been planned for launch in near future to end up with 42 models by end 2015. This is against the figures of 34 in 2009. Company expects increased earnings this year from its sales pitch. They have been highly excited with the flow of orders for their A1 model which in four weeks time far surpasses any such orders ever received by a car at such an early phase. Peter Schwarzenbauer, Audi’s sales chief is excited of the company’s good showing and is confident of a higher earning before interest and taxes this year.
