Bertone MantideJason Castriota’s designed $2 million Bertone Mantide made its public debut at the Shanghai Motor Show in April. Mantide is based on the Corvette ZR1 and only one car been built so far.

There are chances that Mantide will see a very limited(up to 10 units) production in the near future.

The car is about 176 pounds (80 kg) lighter and 30% more aerodynamic than the 638 hp Corvette ZR1.

That means it should be also faster than the ZR1. The first owner of the Mantide, British financier and “gentleman racer” Dan Watkins is considering making a run at the Corvette ZR1’s 7:26.4 Nürburgring lap time.

Going after the new record won’t be cheap. Mr. Watkins is considering renting the “Ring” for three days. He also needs a very experienced Nordschleife driver with a support team to make it happen.

According to Jason Castriota the chances going after the lap record are currently around 50%, but those odds could change for the better very quickly.
