BMW Concept X5 eDrive announced for IAA

BMW has recently announced its plans to bring a hybrid version of the new X5 at Frankfurt Motor Show that would be held next month.

The hybrid powertrain of the concept comes with a TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder gasoline combustion engine working together with an electric motor that produces 95 HP (70 kW) and gets its energy from a lithium-ion battery pack installed underneath the load area. The company claims that the batteries can be recharged from any domestic power socket, as well as from public charging stations or a Wallbox.

The X5 eDrive has a range of up to 19 miles (30 km) when only on electric power and during this time it can achieve a top speed of 75 mph (120 kmph). In terms of fuel efficiency, the model has a fuel consumption of only 3.8 liters / 100 km (61.8 mpg US or 74.3 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of less than even 90 g/km.

In terms of styling, the plug-in hybrid X5 has received very little cosmetic updates like the new roof rails and more aerodynamic 21-inch alloy wheels. It comes with a choice of three driving modes – intelligent hybrid, pure electric and a “save battery” mode.
