BMW Gran Coupe to be launched in the 2nd quarter of 2012

The second quarter of 2012 would see the 6-series model going into production as per confirmation received from BMW. This version of the car is an off shoot of the Gran Coupe concept which had been unveiled by BMW at the Beijing auto Show. Rumor had been rife since then about the production version coming out soon. This has been laid to rest with this announcement of the 6-series model. Other models against whom this car would be competing are the Maserati Quattroporte, the Audi A7 and the Porsche Panamera.

The platform on which the Gran Coupe is scheduled to be built would be the same as the current 5-series, 7-series, and 5-Series GT. This would make it easier from production point of view. Even the engine being used would be the same six and eight cylinder petrol and diesel engines as used in the other models.

The wheel base of the Concept Gran Coupe is long and it also has a vaulted bonnet with forward-pointing lines. It also has a set-back greenhouse with a flat silhouette and its roof line has been designed along the coupe-style. The BMW kidney grille which is separated from the other BMW icons such as headlights and air inlets defines the front section of this model.

As most of its parts and design would be borrowed from its other models, the BMW Gran Coupe should be a quick and easy production. It is anticipated that this year’s Paris Show can have a production model on display.
