About a month ago, when the German Brand, BMW revealed its i3 And i8 Concepts, the event was very publicized. Now, the BMW high-efficiency i range is starting to take shape, two more models are reportedly already under development.
The models that will feature the same carbon fibre-reinforced plastic construction as the i3 and i8, plus adapted versions of the powertrains found in those cars are called the i4 and i5.
It’s not official at this point, but reports suggest the two-door i4 is based on the same platform as the i3 and it will have a coupe-like sloping roof. Also, expect a wider track and a sportier drive – which may mean the i3’s electric motors are upgraded. Beside this, according to the same reports, the city model’s optional two-cylinder range-extending engine will also be available in the i4.
Expected to be powered by the same three-cylinder 1.5-litre turbo unit and electric motors as found in the i8, the i5 will comes to complete the line. It will be a sporty saloon, similar to the Audi A5 Sportback and it will deliver less than the 349bhp output promised by the hybrid supercar.
