BMW i8 Concept Unveiled at 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show: Live Photos and Specs

by Alex

“The most progressive sportscar,” BMW i8 made its world debut at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show and we can show you the first live photos from the event.

According to the German car maker, the i8 will set a benchmark in the performance segment. The 349 horsepower hybrid has nearly 80 mpg fuel consumption. The brand claims that combined with the electric motor, the i8 Concept runs a 0-62mph in just 4.6 sec – 0.3 sec faster than the M3 Coupe, while fuel consumption is estimated at three liters per 100 kilometers.

A lithium-ion battery pack works simultaneously with the three-pot works in tandem and front-mounted electric motor pulled from the i3 and driving the front wheels. This allows an electric-only range of up to 20 miles on a charge. For maximum efficiency you can put both systems together you’ve got a front-wheel-drive vehicle. Also the i8 has a perfect 50/50 weight distribution, measuring 4632mm in length, 1955mm in width and 1280mm in height, comparable to the 3 Series coupe in dimensions.

As a reminder, the German car maker wants to strengthen the lead they have in the light technology area by introducing laser headlights (for more details, click here)

Expect BMW i8 to arrive on a street corner near you in 2014.
