BMW has recently revealed the M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe which will likely debut at the 2014 North American International Auto Show.

Speaking in an interview, the managing director of BMW M Performance Automobiles Friedrich Nitschke said that both M3 and M4 will be at the Detroit Show. He declined to elaborate further but confirmed that the cars will come fitted with carbon fiber roof, an aluminum hood and a carbon fiber trunk lid. We can also expect carbon fiber, aluminum and magnesium to be used in the crash zones.

While Audi and Mercedes have embraced all-wheel drive on their performance models, the MD said that the same was not required for the M cars. He further said that the all-wheel drive would spoil the steering and increase the weight by 80 kg (176 lbs) to the new M3. He also said that the cars will have excellent traction, thanks to a torque vectoring differential and a new traction management system.

Nitschke also confirmed that he wants a 1-Series M Coupe successor but as of now no decision has been taken. He also said that he drove the Mercedes A45 AMG on the Nürburgring and found that it understeers and has a laggy engine.
