A car was pulled out of the St. Johns River on Sunday morning after the vehicle went over the side of the concrete wall of the Dames Point Bridge after a crash Saturday night with another car in the southbound lanes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident took place around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday.
Troopers said the 27-year-old driver of the vehicle that went over the side was able to leave his vehicle and had only small injuries. The vehicle landed in only about 5-6 feet of water.
The second driver was reportedly unharmed.
All southbound lanes on I-295 were shut for an hour while the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department got the driver out of the water and police cleared the scene. All lanes resumed around 9:40 p.m. Saturday.
The next morning, the vehicle that went off the side of the bridge was pulled from the water.
