According to some buzz from Tokyo, Daimler inked a deal with a local textile manufacturer called Toray Industries to develop car parts made from carbon fiber.

Yesterday, the manufacturer confirmed that the parts will be used to build the next generation of Mercedes-Benz vehicles kicking off with the SL-Class starting production by 2012.

Rival Bavarian luxury car manufacturer BMW also signed a deal with SGL Group, the only carbon fiber maker in Europe. These SGL carbon fiber car parts will be used for the BMW Megacity electric vehicle which is due to be out by 2013.
