The Chevrolet Volt model from General Motors would soon be available in Canada. In fact, General Motors dealers located in seven important regions across the country have already started taking orders for the car. The starting price of the extended range electric vehicle has been fixed at CA$41,545 which equals to US$43,780 at today’s exchange rates.
The specific markets where the Volt would be available by the third quarter of this year are Vancouver, Victoria, Toronto, Oshawa, Ottawa-Gatineau, Montreal, and Quebec City. Nationwide availability of the Volt would commence within a year as per GM’s Canadian arm.
The Volt would be available in Canada with two optional packages which are the Premium Trim Package and a Rear Camera and Park Assist Package while it would be a single trim level that the car would come with.
The Volt also comes with 60,000 km or three years coverage, whichever comes first. There is also a 160,000 km or five year roadside assistance which covers transportation and engine coverage in a limited fashion. The Volt uses a 16 kWh lithium ion battery which is covered for an eight year or 160,000 km limited warranty.
The battery pack gives a range of 40 km to 80 km based on driving conditions. There is a 1.4 liter gasoline engine that performs the job of a generator to charge the battery. One could get a range of 500 km with this combination on a full tank.
