Chevy Volt production to be increased by 50 percent

It would be just seven states in the US that the new Chevrolet Volt extended range electric vehicle from General Motors would be up for sale and that too commencing the month of November. But notwithstanding all this, General Motors has announced that they plan to increase the annual capacity of production in the US by 50 percent. Translating that into specific numbers, there would be 45,000 units of the Volt made in 2012 which is up from the 30,000 earlier envisaged. The volts are being built at the Detroit-Hamtramck facility. The announcement came at a time when the U.S. President Barack Obama was around the factory site.

Without tax deductions and subsidies GM has pegged the price for the Volt at $41,000. To hasten electric vehicles entry into the market there has been a slew of motivators placed by the government and of this the $7,500 federal tax credit would bring down the price of the Volt to $33,500.

GM has also announced a lease scheme in which one has to shell out $350 per month for 36 months with a down payment of $2,500 at the time of signing the lease.

As per GM there are 25,000 customers who have booked for the Chevrolet Volt in the last few weeks.
