Controversial Mid-Engined Corvette to make first appearance at Amelia Concours D’Elegance

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray which was launched way back in 1953 remains the same with the engine in the front.

However, there was a time when the idea of engine in the middle was being explored. This was done in 1964 by a team headed by Frank Winchell under the project Safety Proposal. But due to some reasons the car could never be manufactured as Zora Duntov was not very happy with the designing.

The worst was that this mid-engine car was cut and kept in Florida shop called Smokey Yunick. But then in 2002, this car was bought by the largest parts and accessories maker for Corvette, Mid American Motorworks, in an auction.

Now in 2013, the company is planning to launch XP-819 Chevrolet Corvette in the upcoming Amelia Concours D’Elegance. The founder of Mid American Motorworks, Mike Yager, is very confident that the car will more than surprise everyone and people would have never seen such car before.

Have a look at photos.
