The Swedish automaker, Volvo, is reportedly working on a new flagship sedan model known as the S90. It is said that this new model will take the place of the company’s earlier S80 as the company’s flagship sedan model. Now, WhatCar? has given out a comprehensive set of details in regards to the said vehicle model.
According to the information released by WhatCar?, the upcoming flagship sedan model from the Swedish automaker will have a lot of its styling cues inspired by the Volvo Concept Universe that the company showed off for the first time ever at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show event. Yet, as for the platform, the new Volvo sedan will be based on the second generation Volvo XC90 and so is the case when it comes to the engine options.
For the top of the range, the Volvo S90 flagship sedan will count on a T8 twin engine. This engine comes with a combination of a turbocharged/supercharged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine and an electric motor that is mounted at the rear end of the car. Chances are, the engine will give the company’s upcoming flagship sedan a peak power output of 400 hp and a peak torque of 640 Nm. The car will also have a battery pack with a high voltage that gives the vehicle 40 km of electric distance.
Volvo will reportedly build the S90 sedan in China and the asking price will more than likely be higher than that of the outgoing Volvo S80 sedan. According to reports, the new sedan will make its debut no later than the second half of 2015 and that sales will start at early 2016. In addition to the sedan, Volvo will reportedly offer a wagon model as well, the V90. This one will be based on the company’s Concept Estate model.
