Seoul prosecutors attorneys officially jailed an executive of the local unit of Volkswagen on Friday over his supposed participation in the German automaker’s irregularities that came into news following its emissions scandal.
The Seoul Central District Court provided a warrant to arrest the executive in charge of the automobiles’ accreditation procedure, surnamed Yoon, on a string of charges, consisting of forging files and breaching the Clean Air Conservation Act.
The court stated there are significant factors to believe he committed the criminal offenses.
The 52-year-old, became the first Audi Volkswagen Korea authorized person who has been nabbed, is alleged of forging documents to obtain approval from the government.
District attorneys presume the company doctored over a hundred reports on emissions results, sound levels and fuel effectiveness between August 2010 and February 2015. Some models have been even imported without going through the correct accreditation procedure, they stated.
Under regional law, all imported automobiles must first receive approval from the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) of their emissions outcomes and sound levels.
District attorneys stated they will question Yoon on the allegations raised and if the German head office was involved in the process.
