Have you ever heard of the poker game-cum-race called a poker run? It’s a common event in motorcycle groups but two years ago, a luxury car manufacturer tried doing it. Of course, exotic cars were used in the race instead of motorcycles.
Poker runs go like this: at the start of the race, each driver will be given a random card. Then, another will be handed at the next stop. At the end of the race, each driver would be holding a total of 5 cards (so poker runs should have at least 4 stops). Each player would then compare their cards and the one with the best hand wins. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to play Omaha, 7-card Stud, or Texas Hold’Em. As long as you know how poker hands work, you can join the race.
It was Lamborghini Miami who sponsored the poker run event in 2013. The race started at the Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale, with stops at BB&T Center, Lamborghini Miami, Gulfstream Park, and Sun Life Stadium. The grand prize winner of the race was awarded with a luxury weekend in Ferrari California, a weekend stay at the W Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale, a $1,000 pocket money, and massages at a spa. At the end of the race, the participants were treated to some complimentary food and drinks in a restaurant, and watched a horse racing event from a private viewing area.
Of course, only those with exotic cars were able to enter. The event had a $100 registration fee, and the proceeds from it were all donated to charity.
