The new Audi W12 engine to power the facelifted Bentley Continental GT

by Alex

The new facelifted Bentley Continental GT will be officially unveiled for the first time at the Paris Motor Show to be held in September this year. This is the second time the Continental GT has been subjected to a cosmetic makeover and the areas where the car has been worked upon include its air vents, the front end which now sports a whole new design and the headlights that has been spruced up with new daytime running LEDs. However, Bentley has also made it clear this will be the last time the Continental GT is being tweaked before a whole new version replaces the current generation car.

But the most interesting piece of news is Bentley’s move to power the Continental GTs with the new W12 engine that currently does duty on the 2011 Audi A8 W12 Quattro that has only recently been introduced. The 6.3 liter engine is rated at 500 hp along with a torque output of 625 Nm at engine speeds of 3,250 rpm on the Audi A8. Also, the engine can propel the A8 to 100 km/h from standing still in just 4.9 seconds while helping the car attain a top speed of 250 km/h.

However, while Bentley will opt for the same engine to power the new Continental GT, reports indicate that Bentley will also put in twin turbochargers  to help boost power output to above the 600 hp mark.
