Ferrari 488 GTB Bows at Geneva

by SpeedLux

The Italian company, Ferrari, revealed last month its new model, the 488 GTB, which is meant to be the successor to the company’s 458 Italia. Now, the new prancing horse from the Maranello factory in Italy has paid a visit to the Geneva Motor Show event this year.

At a glance, the car may look as if it is just a facelift of its predecessor, the 458 Italia. However, it is not a facelift. It may look rather similar to the outgoing model but it is an entirely new vehicle model indeed. The car benefits from a 3.9L V8 engine under its hood. This engine is also backed by twin turbochargers and it is capable of spitting out no less than 670 HP in terms of power and 760 Nm in terms of torque. Thanks to such huge power, those who drive this Italian prancing horse in particular will not need more than 3 seconds to push the car from a stationary position to the speed mark of 100 km/h. Yet, from a standstill to the speed mark of 200 km/h, the car needs only 8.3 seconds. As for the top speed of the vehicle, it is rated at 330 km/h.

As it turns out, the engine of the vehicle works in conjunction with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) that has been tweaked by Ferrari. The Italian company also points out that even the exhaust system has been reworked such that it will now give out a clear, full and even really distinctive sound.

The exterior of the 458 Italia’s successor features a largely sized air intake scallop, to begin with. This seems to be inspired a bit by the Ferrari 308 GTB model. Yet, this time around, it has been separated into two sections with a splitter in between. In addition to that, the exterior also sports elements like revised LED taillights, a considerably wide front spoiler and a newly designed rear diffuser. The latter features a different blown spoiler and active flaps to boost the downforce of the vehicle. Meanwhile, on the interior, customers will benefit from new seats, angled air vents, a newly designed infotainment system and a set of newly designed satellite control clusters.

The Ferrari 488 GTB weighs in at 1,370 kg and sales of the model will commence in a few months’ time. Also, it is likely that a Spider variant of the model is to follow sometime around the second half of this year.
