Ferrari’s gearboxes have ended up being a weak point that the Formula One group needs to fix, Sebastian Vettel stated on Saturday after 2 failures at the British Grand Prix brought him a second succeeding grid penalty.
Vettel has been four-times world champ, he had gearbox issues on Friday and once again on Saturday at Silverstone.
“It took place yesterday and today. That’s a weakness and we have to stop it,” stated the German as he contemplated a five-place drop that will leave him beginning with 11th in Sunday’s race.
“I believe the other events it was more an effect of things occurring. The problem we had yesterday and today is something new and we have to repair it.”
Vettel is having a torrid time of late, retiring from the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend after a high-speed tire blowout while leading.
Tire supplier Pirelli blamed that on debris on track.
The German said the car was a little off the speed at Silverstone, with Red Bull now looking like the closest challengers to champions Mercedes with Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo on the 2nd row.
