There have been a lot of reports out there suggesting that the Italian automaker, Fiat, is actually prepping two new secret models. As a matter of fact, the company has even patented two monikers in the US, the 124 and the 124 Spider. Now that those monikers have been trademarked in the US Patent and Trademark Office, the question is what the company is really planning to do with them.
Those trademarks mentioned earlier are known to be filed under the listing of automobiles along with their structural parts, motor and engines. Some people believe that the 124 Spider, as its name implies, will be a new roadster model from the Italian company. Needless to say, the 124 is more than likely to come in the form of a coupe then. Unfortunately, details are kind of scarce right now.
Nevertheless, for those who probably do not know just yet, the Fiat 124 was actually a vehicle model that the Italian automaker developed back in the year 1966. This means that the new 124 may well be the second, or whatever latest, generation of the model. The original 124 was also recognized as the VAZ-2101 in Russia back then. That, however, was not the only name that was given to this very model from Fiat. Some people also called it the Lada 1200 or the Kopeyka.
Yet, there is one thing that is worth noting here. The Russian version of the model is a really bad one. Back then, the engineers in the Russian Federation decided to swap the vehicle’s original rear disc brakes with aluminum drum brakes. They might be trying to be brilliant that time but that was an epic fail, to say the least.
Taking that into consideration, it is kind of confusing why the Italian automaker will once again revive the 124 moniker. However, perhaps it is wiser to just wait and see what the all-new Fiat 124 and 124 Spider has in store when it rolls out of its Italian factory.
