After a number of leaks and speculative images appeared on the World Wide Web in respect to the latest sports car from the luxury German automaker Audi, the R8, the car has now eventually been unveiled. The German automaker has seemingly decided to unveil its latest creation officially after an official image of the vehicle was leaked recently. The vehicle will reportedly make its public premiere when the 2015 Geneva Motor Show kicks off.
After the official unveiling of the vehicle, it is now obvious that the next generation Audi R8 sports car will feature LED headlamps as standard. It turns out that previous rumors regarding the new headlamps of the vehicle are correct. Customers with an extra sum of money can also opt for laser headlamps to replace the LED ones. The latter can light up the road ahead as far as 600 meters, twice the capability of that offered by the standard LED headlamps.
Moving to the rear fascia of the vehicle, owners of the vehicle will now receive flat LED taillights. Right below the taillights, we can see air intakes with a generous size available. In addition to that, just like on its predecessor, the next generation R8 from Audi will also bear a retractable rear spoiler. However, for the more ultimate model, the Plus trim, buyers of the vehicle will get a fixed wing spoiler that is made of the carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) material instead. A largely sized rear diffuser is also visible between the dual exhaust pipes with a trapezoidal design and, since the engine of the car is mounted on its rear, it can clearly be observed through the rear windshield.
Speaking of the engine, the car packs an upgraded version of Audi’s 5.2L V10 FSI naturally aspirated engine. So, unlike the trends in the automotive industry these days, the new R8 is not going to have a turbocharger to back its engine. On the standard variant of the new R8, customers will get 540 hp and 540 Nm of power and torque whereas on the Plus trim, they can expect 610 hp and 560 Nm of power and torque.
The Audi R8 is now in its second generation and sales of the vehicle are scheduled for start this summer itself. Prices will start at 165,000 Euros for the standard variant. Yet, as for the Plus trim, customers will have to pay at least 187,400 Euros.
